Aston Villa travel to Barcelona on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.
Villa are second in the league-phase table with nine points from three wins, having scored 12 goals against Club Brugge, Fenerbahçe and Viking. They arrive winless in two, after a 3-0 EFL Cup defeat at Bournemouth and a 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham on Saturday.
Barcelona are eighth on six points after losing 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain on matchday three, and followed a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in La Liga with a 6-1 win over Alavés. The clubs last met in the 1983 UEFA Super Cup, which Villa won 3-1 on aggregate.
Aston Villa team news
Amadou Onana (knee), Matteo Ruggeri (thigh) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (thigh) remain out, with no new injury concerns after the Fulham draw. Nicolas Jackson was not pictured in training before that match but started and scored, taking him to eight goals in 12 appearances for Villa. He is expected to lead the line again at Camp Nou. Lamine Yamal needs one more Champions League goal to become the highest-scoring teenager in the competition’s history, having equalled Kylian Mbappé on 13.
Unai Emery could make two changes. Leon Goretzka made his first Premier League start against Fulham, but João Gomes may replace him alongside Boubacar Kamara in midfield. Emiliano Buendía could come in for Alysson, with John McGinn and Johan Manzambi retained in the attacking three. Matty Cash and Ian Maatsen are expected to start at full-back, with Victor Lindelöf and Pau Torres in central defence.
