Inter Milan have joined fellow Serie A Roma in their hope of signing Manchester United defender Alex Telles, following his difficult start to life at the club.
The Brazilian only made the move to the Red Devils on a £15.4m deal last summer, yet faces an uncertain future at the club, having endured a frustrating debut campaign at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old’s arrival seemingly sparked a superb run of form from fellow left-back Luke Shaw, the Englishman securing his place as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice, restricting Telles to just nine Premier League appearances.
While he made 24 appearances in total in all competitions, many of those came from the substitutes bench, with the former Porto man yet to showcase the excellent form he produced in Portugal in recent years.
That lack of action has seen the player linked with an exit from the club, with Sky Sports Italy reporting that both Inter and Roma are hopeful of securing a deal this summer.
The full-back has already enjoyed a brief stint at the San Siro, having played on-loan at the club during the 2015/16 season, with Inter likely to be in favour of another loan move this time around.
As too are Serie A rivals Roma, the club looking for a temporary replacement for Italy’s Euro 2020 star Leonardo Spinazzola, the attacking full-back having suffered an Achilles injury during the knockout stages of the tournament and set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
A switch to the Stadio Olimpico would see Telles link up with former United boss Jose Mourinho, who recently replaced compatriot Paulo Fonseca.
As for Inter, the departure of Antonio Conte has seen former Lazio man Simone Inzaghi take over, the new man seeking defensive reinforcements after seeing both Ashley Young and Achraf Hakimi depart this summer.
The main issue for both sides, however, is their desire for a loan deal, rumours suggesting that the Red Devils would only sanction a permanent switch should they allow the player to depart.
