Ranking the highest scoring teams in Europe’s top five leagues

Who are the highest scoring teams across Europe’s top five leagues so far this season?

Girona have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far and came from two goals down to thrash Almeria 5-2 at the weekend and move level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.

The goals have flowed freely for Míchel’s side, but where do Girona rank among all clubs from Europe’s leading leagues?

Ranking the highest scoring teams in Europe’s top five leagues:

Newcastle – 24

Newcastle have scored 24 goals from their eight Premier League fixtures so far this season after cruising to a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend. Eddie Howe’s team are the highest scorers in the Premier League, ahead of Aston Villa (23), Brighton (22) and Liverpool (20).

That record was helped by an 8-0 thrashing of newly-promoted Sheffield United, a record-equalling win for the Magpies in the Premier League era. Incredibly, Newcastle had eight different scorers at Bramall Lane.

Inter Milan – 24

Inter Milan are the early leaders in the Serie A title race and have scored 24 goals in nine games, to sit one point clear of AC Milan and two ahead of Juventus in third.

Lautaro Martinez has started the season in scintillating form for the Nerazzurri, with the club captain the league’s leading scorer.

Martinez has already scored 11 league goals for Inter, a return which leaves him five goals clear of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen – who won the Capocannoniere award last season – at the top of the goal chart.

Girona – 24

Girona have also plundered 24 league goals this season after hitting five past Almeria at the weekend.

In only the club’s second season since returning to La Liga, Girona have sprang a surprise to compete with Spain’s elite at the top of the division. Girona have won eight and lost just one of their opening 10 La Liga fixtures this season and are level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the division.

No team in Spain’s top tier has scored more goals. They’ve scored as many goals as Manchester United and Chelsea combined this season.

Bayer Leverkusen – 25

Bayer Leverkusen are leading the Bundesliga title race as the club continue to go from strength to strength under the management of Xabi Alonso.

Alonso’s appointment saw Leverkusen rise from the relegation places to European qualification last season and that momentum has continued into the new campaign. Leverkusen are unbeaten after eight games and top the table, though just two points separate the leaders from Borussia Dortmund in fourth.

Victor Boniface has hit the ground running since his arrival from Union Saint-Gilloise during the summer, with seven goals in seven league games for the Nigerian forward.

Stuttgart – 25

Stuttgart have clung on to their Bundesliga status in each of the last two seasons, but the Germans are flying high in the table in the opening weeks of the 2023/24 campaign.

Their fantastic form – which has seen Sebastian Hoeneß’ side win seven of their first eight games – has largely been inspired by the performances of Serhou Guirassy, who has scored an astonishing 14 goals in just eight league games.

The 28-year-old scored 11 league goals across the entirety of last season, but has already blitzed past that total before the end of October. He is the leading scorer across Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Bayern Munich – 26

The top three scoring teams in Europe’s leading leagues all hail from the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich leading the way.

The German giants are targeting a 12th consecutive Bundesliga title this season and have made a strong start to the campaign, having gone unbeaten in their first eight games.

Harry Kane signed for the Bavarians in a deal worth around €100m in the summer and has made an immediate impact in German football, with nine league goals. Kane will be looking to chase down the aforementioned Guirassy as he looks to add a Bundesliga leading scorer award to his three Premier League Golden Boots.
