Pep Guardiola has confirmed Leroy Sane ‘wants to play at another club’ and revealed the winger has rejected the opportunity to extend his contract at Manchester City.
The Germany international’s future has been a subject of debate in recent months and he will enter the final year of his contract at the Etihad this summer, Bayern Munich making no secret of their interest of doing a deal to take Sane back to the Bundesliga.
Man City boss Guardiola has now confirmed that the player has rejected a contract offer at the Premier League champions, appearing to suggest an exit is probable in the coming months.
“Leroy said he doesnโt want to extend his contract,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.
“If he wants to leave and it is going to happen this summer or at the end of the contract. The club talked to me a few times, he rejected his contract so he wants to play at another club.
“I think everybody knows and if at the end of this season an agreement can be found he will leave, if not he will leave at the end of his contract.”
While Guardiola admitted he is ‘disappointed’ with Sane’s stance and decision to seek ‘another adventure’, but says he respects the German’s decision over his next career move.
“Iโm disappointed of course,” he added. “When we make an offer to a player, it is because we want him. We tried before the injury, we tried after and it was rejected.
“I said many time we want players who want to play with this club and commit to try to achieve our targets but of course we respect him.
“Heโs an incredibly nice guy. I love him so much. Heโs educated, a nice family. I have nothing against him but he decided he wants another adventure for his career. When this happens, we are going to help him until the last day he is here.”
