Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed speculation linking young talent Brahim Diaz with a move away from the club.
The 19-year-old Spaniard’s contract will expire at the season’s end and the midfielder has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Should Diaz leave, it will be the second time in recent seasons one of City’s brightest prospects has decided to leave the Etihad, after Jadon Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund last summer in search of regular first-team football.
“The market is the market. City go around England to take players. At Barcelona, there were many player, like, Cesc Fabregas, who wanted to leave and go to Arsenal.’’ Guardiola told the press ahead of his sides Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
“In the case of Brahim it is very simple. We want him to stay, we want to extend his contract for four or five years and we’ll do absolutely everything to keep him here but as I said before it’s in his hands. My advice is: if he doesn’t want to stay, he has to leave.”
