Fresh injury blow for Chelsea as Emerson injured on international duty

Chelsea have been handed a blow after Emerson Palmieri picked up a hamstring injury whilst on international duty.

The full-back limped off after just eight minutes during Italy’s 2-1 win over Finland on Sunday night, with the 25-year-old now a major doubt for this weekend’s trip to Wolves.

The former Roma defender appeared to tweak a hamstring after chasing down Norwich forward Teemu Pukki, being withdrawn in the early stages of the contest after receiving treatment.

The Brazilian-born star has been the club’s first-choice left back since Frank Lampard’s arrival as manager this summer, starting all four of Chelsea‘s Premier League fixtures so far this season.

According to the Mirror, Marcos Alonso may now be set for a Chelsea recall, having been out-of-favour under Lampard so far this season.

The Spain international was a regular starter under Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri, but has been overlooked this season in favour of Emerson, making just one substitute appearance.
