Football’s transfer window is officially open with headlines currently dominated by the biggest clubs transfer plans.
It already seems that some massive transfer deals are edging completion as Premier League clubs look to strengthen ahead of the 2022/23 season.
We’ve decided to take a look at some of the biggest deals currently being work on by English football’s elite, and if you want to place a bet on where some big name players end up next season check out this guide.
Darwin Nunez – Benfica to Liverpool
Darwin Nunez has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought after attackers after Uruguayan international notched 32 goals in just 40 games in all competitions this season.
At just 22-years-old and possessing speed, physical stature and prolific finishing ability, the young forward looks to be the complete package and while he is already an outstanding frontman he has the potential to improve even further.
Liverpool have made Nunez their number one target this summer and the Reds are prepared to smash their transfer record to take him to Anfield.
Liverpool have been left reeling by the news that Sadio Mane wants to leave the club, but the signing of a talent like the all-action Nunez would represent a real coup and with the youngster possessing all the attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League he would be a brilliant long-term addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Ousmane Dembele – Barcelona to Chelsea
French attacker Ousmane Dembele looks to be on his way out of Barcelona with the Spanish clubs financial troubles meaning they have been unable to agree a new deal for the out-of-contract winger.
Dembele has struggled with disciplinary and injury issues since moving to Barca in a massive £135 million deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2016. However, once you see the 25-year-old in full flight, with his two-footedness and blistering pace it’s quite obvious that his potential is frightening.
The 27-cap France international played the best football of his career under current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel during their time together at Dortmund and if the German coach can coax the best out of Dembele the Stamford Bridge club will be getting one hell of a player for free.
Gabriel Jesus – Manchester City to Arsenal
Brazil International Gabriel Jesus is set to be on the move this summer in search of more regular first-team football.
Now 25-years-old, Jesus has been a solid performer for Pep Guardiola’s Man City over the years, although there is a feeling that he has never really kicked on and fulfilled the level of potential he showed after moving to the Etihad from Palmeiras in 2017.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the versatile forward and Jesus would surely provide a massive upgrade on the departing Alexandre Lacazette in the centre of Arsenal’s exciting young attack.
The Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta also has an intimate knowledge of Jesus after coaching him during his time as City’s assistant manager and a deal looks to make sense for both parties.
Marc Cucurella – Brighton to Man City
Ok, so this is hardly the most glamorous of transfers, but having said that, at the end of the next Premier League season if this deal happens many may just be hailing it as the best signing of the season.
Man City have become an absolute winning machine under Josep Guardiola, although for all their dominance the one position that has always given their Catalan coach a headache is left back. The £50 million signing of Benjamin Mendy has been a disaster, and while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo are both fine footballers neither are specialist left backs.
Therefore, it is no surprise that the Citizens are being linked with a move for Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella. The 23-year-old has been a revelation since joining Brighton from Getafe last summer, the impressive defender winning the Seagulls player of the year award in his first season in English footballer.
The floppy-haired Cucurella is Catalonian, started out in the Barca academy, is brilliant technically, and a solid defender. Is he the left-back Pep has been searching for all these years?
Frenkie De Jong – Barcelona to Manchester United
Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong has long been heralded as one of the finest players of his generation, and incoming Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag wants to build a new-look midfield around the 25-year-old.
De Jong rose to prominence under the guidance of Ten Hag at Ajax before securing a dream move to Barcelona in 2019.
However, it’s been a tough couple of years for Barca both on and off the pitch, and despite De Jong insisting that he does not want to leave the Camp Nou it seems the club’s financial issues mean they could have to cash in on the talented midfielder.
United are currently in negotiations with Barca having seen their first bid rebuffed, although it does seem that gradually all parties are starting to see that a deal can be done in the coming weeks.
