Who said route one was dead? Premier League goalkeepers have been switching up the narrative this season with long launches turning into goals.

Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen added his name to the list of goalkeepers to assist a goal this season against Chelsea, swelling the total to five shot-stoppers. It’s the most on record in a Premier League campaign since 2010/11 (also 5) with plenty of time for another goalkeeper to turn goal-creator.

Ederson – Manchester City (3)

Incredibly, Ederson has three assists for Manchester City in the Premier League this season. His latest came during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Newcastle as his raking pass released Omar Marmoush in to score his first City goal.

Ederson’s three assists is the most a Premier League goalkeeper has ever recorded in a season, while he’s now up to six goals created in the division – another record.

Bart Verbruggen – Brighton

Bart Verbruggen also claimed an assist at the weekend after setting up Kaoru Mitoma’s opener against Chelsea.

The utter absurdity of Mitoma’s first touch and finish means few will remember the assister, but Verbruggen won’t care.

Mark Flekken – Brentford

Brentford sought the signing of Mark Flekken from Freiburg 18 months ago as the Bees looked for a goalkeeper capable of replacing David Raya. The Dutchman’s distribution has certainly been on point, with an assist in each of his Premier League campaigns with the club.

Jordan Pickford – Everton

Three of the five goalkeepers on this list have assisted goals this month.

Jordan Pickford kickstarted Everton’s 4-0 rout of Leicester City on February 1st, as the midfielder collected Pickford’s punt to score inside 15 seconds. It was the fourth-fastest goal in Premier League history.

Bernd Leno – Fulham

Bernd Leno recorded his first-ever Premier League assist in October, during Fulham’s 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa. A long ball forward was latched onto by Raul Jimenez, who fired Fulham in front after just five minutes at Craven Cottage.
