Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson admits Liverpool’s Alisson is ‘one step ahead’ after the duo were among the nominees for the FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The Brazilian pair have been shortlisted alongside Barcelona’s Marc-Andre tee Stegen for the award, though Ederson believes his national team rival is a deserving winner.
Alisson has made a huge impression since joining Liverpool from Roma last summer, helping the club to Champions League success and winning the Premier League‘s Golden Glove.
The 26-year-old then played a key role as Brazil won this summer’s Copa America, and Man City stopper Ederson believes his international teammate is a step ahead of the competition.
“I think the three of us were the best, but I see Alisson one step ahead,” he said, via Goal.

“He was great in the Premier League, won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and had a great Copa America as well.
“So I think whoever wins will be deserving and I’m happy for two Brazilian goalkeepers to reach this level.”
Ederson has largely been deputy to Alisson on the international stage, though will be given an opportunity to impress this week with the Liverpool star sidelined with a calf injury for the forthcoming internationals.
Brazil face Colombia and Peru in the coming days, and Ederson admits he is hoping to seize his opportunity as number one.
“We all know the great period that Alisson is living. And I’m having a good time too. Of course, these are opportunities,” the former Benfica keeper added.
“As a player you must be prepared for everything. I train as if I am always playing, which makes it easier for me to be used. I hope to make the best of the opportunities I have here and I’ll give my best.”
