Manchester City reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho this summer.
The Brazil international was believed to have been offered to the Premier League champions in the transfer window, though Pep Guardiola showed no interest and rejected the chance to sign the 27-year-old despite the long-term injury suffered to Leroy Sane.
Germany international Sane is expected to miss the majority of the season with a serious knee injury after having surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, though Guardiola opted not to sign a replacement for the 23-year-old.
According to Marca, Coutinho was offered to Manchester City alongside several of Europe’s leading clubs, the former Liverpool star having being deemed surplus to requirements after an indifferent spell at the Spanish champions.
The midfielder has subsequently joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan deal, where he will hope to rediscover the form which made him one of the Premier League’s leading players before his disappointing spell in Spain.
