Chelsea prepared to smash their transfer record to bring Sancho to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are becoming increasingly confident of signing Jadon Sancho and are prepared to smash their transfer record to bring the Borussia Dortmund star to Stamford Bridge.

The England international looks set to leave the Bundesliga side and has attracted interest from across Europe, particularly from the Premier League’s leading sides with both Chelsea and Manchester United thought to be amongst the frontrunners for his signature.

Sancho has flourished since leaving Manchester City for German football two years ago, though a difficult start to the season including a series of disciplinary issues has led to a parting of ways with Dortmund becoming inevitable in the near future.

Chelsea are now confident that they will be able to land the talented teenager, the club pressing ahead with transfer plans despite currently being banned from signing players for breaching rules regarding the recruitment of foreign u18s.

The club have appealed their punishment to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are currently awaiting an imminent verdict, with the club putting plans into place should they be freed to make acquisitions ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Goal, those plans include a move for Sancho and Chelsea believe they are in a strong position to bring the 19-year-old back to the Premier League.

Chelsea will have significant funds to spend following their restriction on recruitment and sales of the likes of Eden Hazard and David Luiz, and Frank Lampard’s side are believed to be ready to break their transfer record – currently the £72m signing of Kepa Arriziabalaga – to beat off competition for Sancho’s signature.

The club’s hopes are further boosted by Sancho’s London roots, whilst the winger also maintains a close relationship with Chelsea youngsters Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham and could be tempted by a move to Lampard’s emerging side.
