Chelsea ‘in talks’ to sign Man City target Cucurella

Chelsea are ‘in talks’ to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton with the west Londoners set to rival Manchester City’s interest in the defender.

Thomas Tuchel is interested in a deal to sign the left-back as Chelsea look for defensive reinforcements and the two clubs are negotiating over a potential fee.

The Athletic are reporting that Chelsea are prepared to include Levi Colwill as part of the discussions for Cucurella, who shone following his move to the Seagulls from Getafe last summer.

Cucurella was named as Brighton’s Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season after a series of impressive performances in 2021/22 and has been subject of an offer from Manchester City.

City have, however, refused to meet Brighton’s valuation of around £50m. Cucurella submitted a transfer request on Friday in a bid to force a move, but the Seagulls have so far refused to alter their stance.

Chelsea have now entered the race for Cucurella as the club look to bolster their backline before the transfer window’s deadline on September 1. The Spaniard featured at both left wing-back and as a left-sided centre-back for Graham Potter’s team last season.

The Blues are also working on deals to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester and Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
