Chelsea are interested in appointing former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel as their new coach this summer.
The Blues current boss Antonio Conte is expected to depart the Stamford Bridge club at the end of the season, after falling out with the club’s board over transfer policy.
Tuchel is one of Europes most highly rated young coaches, and it was reported by German publication Kicker last week that the 44-year-old had all but agreed to take over the reigns at Arsenal from the Gunners long term manager Arsene Wenger.
However, it has emerged today that Chelsea’s influential director Marina Granovskaia already held talks with Tuchel last summer about taking over at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on the Totally Football Show, highly respected German journalist Raphael Honigstein said:
“I have it on pretty good authority that Thomas Tuchel made a very good impression on Marina Granovskaia in a meeting they’ve had. I don’t know how recent that meeting was.
“Remember, they were talking to him before the start of this season on the assumption that Conte might actually go.”
Despite these reports former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique remains the massive favourite to take over from Conte this summer.
