Chelsea exit ‘edging closer’ for Willian as Arsenal talks continue

Willian is ‘edging closer’ to an exit from Chelsea this summer with the winger having held talks over a potential free transfer move to London rivals Arsenal.

The Brazil international is out-of-contract at Chelsea this summer and talks over an extension to his deal have so far failed to find an agreement, the west London side’s offer of a two-year deal having been rejected by the player and his advisors.

Frank Lampard is keen to retain the services of the experienced star who impressed following the Premier League‘s restart, though the club’s hopes of agreeing terms the 31-year-old seem to be diminishing as Willian demands a new three-year contact.

According to the Guardian, the stalemate in negotiations has opened the door for Arsenal to make their move, and the Gunners are prepared to offer Willian the three-year deal he desires after securing Europa League qualification by beating Chelsea in last weekend’s FA Cup final.

The Mirror are also reporting that Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘increasingly confident’ of concluding a deal to bring Willian across the capital, despite interest from several clubs both in Europe and Major League Soccer.

Willian is believed to be happy with life in London and a move to the Gunners is looking like an increasingly realistic prospect, with a deal potentially being announced after Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The former Shakhtar Donestsk star has spent seven seasons with Chelsea and won a host of major honours, including two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Europa League.
