Chelsea are considering alternatives to leading targets Erling Haaland and Declan Rice, with the club yet to make progress during the summer transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are yet to make a new signing during the window with fans having become frustrated at the lack of incomings at Stamford Bridge, as the European champions bid to build on last season’s Champions League success and challenge for the Premier League title.
The signing of a new centre-forward has been a priority for Tuchel, with the west London side strongly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Haaland.
The Norway international is amongst the most sought-after players in world football after scoring 57 goals in just 59 appearances since signing for the Bundesliga side, though Dortmund have insisted that the 20-year-old is not for sale this summer.
Haaland has a release clause in his contract of €75m that will become active in 2022, where competition is expected to be fierce as each of Europe’s elite bid to sign one of the most exciting talents in world football.
Chelsea are also interested in the potential signing of Declan Rice from West Ham as the Blues bid to bolster their midfield options, though the England international’s £100m+ price tag makes a move appear difficult.
Tammy Abraham – who has been linked with the London Stadium and is valued at £40m – has been mentioned as a potential makeweight in a deal to bring the 22-year-old across the capital.
The Athletic are reporting that Chelsea’s frustrations in their pursuits has now led to alternative and cheaper targets being considered, with Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic one new name understood to be on Tuchel’s radar.
The Austria international – who stands at a towering 6ft 7in – scored 16 league goals for the newly-promoted side in the Bundesliga last term and has netted four times in nine appearances at international level.
Danny Ings is another player who could emerge as a potential target with several of the Premier League’s leading sides – including Manchester City and Tottenham – having been linked with a move for the forward who has entered the final year of his contract at Southampton.
In terms of midfield reinforcements and as an alternative for Rice, a move for Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni is said to be being given ‘serious consideration,’ the 21-year-old having enjoyed an impressive season after breaking into the Ligue 1 side on a regular basis last term.
