Steve Bruce has confirmed that Allan Saint-Maximin has been passed fit for Newcastle’s trip to face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Saint-Maximin has starred since returning to the side in recent weeks and has been crucial in Newcastle’s back-to-back wins over Burnley and West Ham, results which have moved the Magpies eight points clear of the relegation places.
The French winger was substituted during that latter victory after sustaining an ankle injury, but Bruce has confirmed Saint-Maximin is available for the club’s trip to Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.
Bruce also confirmed Callum Wilson is ‘ok’ to feature, though says the clash with Liverpool may come too soon for Fabian Schar as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
“Allan Saint-Maximin is OK, thankfully. He’s trained all week. It was a kick to his ankle but he does take a few of those so it’s going to be a constant battle but he’s OK for tomorrow,” Bruce told his pre-match press conference.
“It’s been part of Callum’s rehab that he takes it easier on a Thursday but he’s perfectly OK too.
“Fab Schar has worked extremely hard and trained all week but the weekend might come a bit too early for him. It’s good to see him back.”
