Match Preview – Bournemouth v Arsenal

Arsenal travel to face Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend, looking to maintain their perfect start to the new campaign.

The Cherries face a second stern examination in succession after defeat at Manchester City last time out, but will be hoping to cause an upset on the South Coast.

Here is all you need to know about Saturday’s clash.

Bournemouth: WL

Scott Parker will have been delighted to open the season with a win over Aston Villa, but Bournemouth were given a dose of reality after a 4-0 thrashing at Manchester City last weekend.

Bournemouth will be glad to return to home comforts at the Vitality Stadium after a testing trip north, but are likely to be missing last season’s leading scorer, Dominic Solanke, with an ankle injury once again this weekend.

Summer signings Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks also remain absent, as the Cherries look for a first win over Arsenal since January 2018.

Arsenal: WW

Things are looking much rosier at Arsenal than at this last season, when the Gunners found themselves without a point or goals.

Back-to-back wins mean Mikel Arteta’s side are one of just two teams, alongside Manchester City, with a perfect record after two games and the north Londoners will be looking to build on a strong start.

Gabriel Jesus scored twice and provided two assists in last weekend’s 4-2 win over Leicester and both the Brazilian and Oleksandr Zinchenko have hit the ground running. Fabio Vieira will hope to join his fellow summer signings in the team this weekend, with the 22-year-old in line for a debut after featuring for 45 minutes for the club’s u21 side on Wednesday.

Emile Smith Rowe was also handed minutes as he steps up his recovery after an injury-hampered pre-season.

Last Meeting

Bournemouth 1-2 Arsenal, January 27th 2020 (FA Cup)

The last meeting between the teams came in the FA Cup in 2020, as the Gunners travelled to face a Bournemouth side struggling near the bottom of the Premier League.

The Cherries had lost 10 of their past 14 games across all competitions and were beaten on home soil by a youthful Arsenal team.

First-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah did the damage for Mikel Arteta’s side, with Sam Surridge’s goal deep into second-half stoppage time placing a look of respectability on the scoreline.

Arsenal ended the season as FA Cup winners, beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final at Wembley.
