Benitez confident Newcastle can ‘compete’ with Arsenal

Rafael Benitez is confident Newcastle can ‘compete’ as he prepares to take his side to Arsenal.

Newcastle travel to face fourth-placed Arsenal at the Emirates on Monday night football, and face a difficult task to get a result against Unai Emery’s in-form side.

Arsenal have won four of their past five fixtures to move back into the Champions League places, whilst also ensuring progress to the last eight of the Europa League.

Newcastle have lost just once in their past six league fixtures to ease their relegation concerns, and Benitez admits his side have ‘confidence’ ahead of the trip to London.

“Arsenal are doing really well, we know exactly what we have to do,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“Sometimes you need a bit of luck, but we can compete against anyone.

“The team is quite solid and we have confidence in ourselves. We are doing a lot of things with more confidence – we are creating more chances and we have more of a threat in attack”
