Bayern Munich are said to be in ‘pole position’ to secure the signing of Kai Havertz and are still working on a deal for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.
The Bundesliga champions are preparing to significantly strengthen this summer and are long-term admirers of Havertz, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder attracting interest from several of Europe’s leading clubs following an impressive season at the BayArena.
Chelsea are amongst the clubs believed to have held talks with Leverkusen over a deal for the 21-year-old, though according to the Telegraph, Bayern are still favourites to land his signature and are confident of securing a deal that will see the highly-rated youngster remain in Germany.
Havertz has flourished since bursting onto the scene with Leverkusen four years ago and has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season, including five goals in just five appearances since the Bundesliga’s behind-closed-doors restart.
According to the Telegraph report, any fee for the midfielder is likely to be in the region of £75m, whilst it adds that Bayern are continuing talks with Manchester City over a deal for Sane.
The Bavarians saw several approaches for the Germany international rejected last summer, but have returned with renewed interest after seeing the 24-year-old recover from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool in August.
Bayern are hopeful of securing a cut-price deal for a player who will have just a year remaining on his contract this summer, though the Premier League champions have warned that the Germans will have to significantly increase their initial £35m valuation of the winger.
