English clubs yet to make a move for Saul, with Barca still in ‘pole’ position

Barcelona remain in ‘pole position’ to sign Saul Niguez, with reported interest from the Premier League yet to result in offers for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

Saul is expected to leave the Spanish champions this summer after growing frustrated with his role under Diego Simeone, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all understood to be interested in signing the 26-year-old.

According to AS however, Saul wants to sign for Barcelona and despite talks over a swap-deal involving Antoine Griezmann failing to materialise, the Catalonian’s still remain interested in taking the midfielder to the Nou Camp.

None of the aforementioned Premier League trio are yet to make a formal approach for Saul, despite reports last week that the midfielder’s representatives would travel to England this week for talks with Manchester United.

Liverpool have also been strongly linked with a move for the Spain international before the closure of the transfer window later this month, as the Reds seek a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum following the midfielder’s move to PSG.

Discussions between Barcelona and Atletico are apparently ‘on hold’ for now, but are set get underway in the coming days once Lionel Messi’s contract situation is resolved and several fringe players depart the Camp Nou, with Miralem Pjanic, Martin Braithwaite, Neto and Samuel Umtiti expected to leave.
