Cesar Azpilicueta has called on Chelsea to show ‘solidity’ when they travel to Anfield to face title-chasing Liverpool on Sunday.
The fixture has earned comparisons to the Blues trip to Merseyside in 2014, when Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip helped Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea to a 2-0 win which derailed Liverpool’s title hopes.
Azpilicueta was part of the Chelsea side for that clash, but insists his side’s objective is to play their game and not to damage their opponents title chances.
“It was a few years ago, but we went there and they had the party ready because they were smashing every team at Anfield,” Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s official website.
“It’s not about frustrating Liverpool, it’s about playing our game.
“We know they are fighting for the title but for us every point is very important for the top four. We need to keep the solidity that we’ve shown in the last games, and I think we’ve proved ourselves already this season when we won in the League Cup [earlier this season].”
