Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
Atletico star Griezmann announced his intention to leave the club this week after five years in the Spanish capital, with Barcelona believed to be ready to trigger the 28-year-old’s £108m release clause.
Griezmann’s departure will be a huge blow to Diego Simeone’s side, who will look to reinvest some of the fee they receive for the French World Cup winner on Arsenal’s Lacazette.
According to Le10, Atletico will launch a bid for the former Lyon forward who has enjoyed a superb season for Unai Emery’s side and had also previously been linked with a move to Barcelona.
The 27-year-old has scored 19 goals in all competitions for the North London side, playing a key role in their run to the Europa League final.
Arsenal will be reluctant to lose the player, who has struck up an excellent partnership with fellow forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the strike duo scoring 52 per cent of the Gunners Premier League goals this season.
Atletico will hope the lure of Champions League football can tempt Lacazette to Spain, though Arsenal can secure qualification for Europe’s premier tournament should they beat Chelsea in the Europa League final on May 29.
