Form
Aston Villa: DWLWD
Villa‘s recent form is a picture of inconsistency. After starting the calendar year with four wins out of five in all competitions, drawing the other game with Arsenal, Emery’s side are winless in their last three Premier League outings.
A draw with West Ham United was followed by victory over Celtic in the Champions League, before losing to relegation candidates and Midlands rivals Wolves. They advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup by beating Spurs, but drew with ten-man Ipswich Town this past weekend.

Liverpool: WWLDW
Having lost only once from the start of the season until the new year, Liverpool have lost three times in 2025. None of those defeats have come in the Premier League, though, as they maintain their bid for the title.
A hard fought win over Bournemouth was followed by progression to the League Cup final as they hammered Spurs 4-0. But a rotated side was stunned by Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.
The Merseyside outfit was then denied victory by an incredible 98th-minute volley by EVerton centre-back James Tarkowski. They got back on track last Sunday with a 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield, although their second-half performance left much to be desired.
Worryingly for Villa, Liverpool are the only unbeaten away team in English league football this season (W9, D4).

Last Meeting
Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa, Premier League, 9 November, 2024
The Reds sliced through Villa in transition when these two sides met earlier this season, as Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah put Emery’s men to the sword at Anfield.
In the 20th minute the hosts went from defending their own corner to attacking at the other end in seconds. Salah was through on goal when Leon Bailey pulled him down, but Nunez picked up possession before striking goalward.
Villa were denied a penalty after Ollie Watkins and Ibrahima Konate collided in the box, while Caoimhรญn Kelleher pulled off a number of inspired saves to keep them out.
Another sweeping counter attack released Nunez into the final third, but he blazed his shot over the bar. However, the contest was settled in the second half after Diego Carlos nodded the ball straight to Salah, who ran from inside his own half before slotting the ball past Emi Martinez.
