Arsenal talks over Ben White deal at ‘advanced’ stage

Arsenal’s talks with Brighton over a deal for Ben White are now said to be at an ‘advanced’ stage as a move edges closer.

Mikel Arteta has identified the signing of the England international as a priority this summer with the Gunners having seen an opening offer of around £40m rejected earlier this week, with the Seagulls holding out for a fee in excess of £50m.

White enjoyed an impressive first full season as a Brighton regular last season, having won admirers following his role in Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League during a loan spell at Elland Road in 2019/20.

The 23-year-old has featured at centre-back, right-back and in midfield for Graham Potter’s team, with Sky Sports reporting that talks between the two clubs are at an ‘advanced’ stage, with personal terms not expected to be a problem with all parties keen to conclude a deal.

It is reported that Arsenal’s latest bid for White is in the region of £45 million plus add ons to take them close to the Seagulls valuation.

Brighton have insisted they will not stand in the way of their leading assets should huge offers arrive this summer, midfielder Yves Bissouma another who has attracted attention from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

White – who has previously been linked with the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool – is currently with the England squad at Euro 2020 as the Three Lions prepare for their last 16 meeting with Germany at Wembley on Tuesday.
