Arsenal are set to ‘step up’ their pursuit of Brighton defender Ben White, as William Saliba edges closer to completing his latest loan move away from the club.
Mikel Arteta is keen to sign White as he seeks to strengthen his defensive options at the Emirates, with the Gunners having already seen an opening offer rejected for the 23-year-old with discussions ongoing between the two sides.
Brighton are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £50m for the versatile defender, who formed part of the England squad at this summer’s European Championship.
According to the Evening Standard, Gareth Southgate is understood to have informed his England players to postpone transfer talk until the conclusion of the tournament, with the Three Lions beaten on penalties in Sunday’s final against Italy at Wembley.
Arsenal will now ‘step up’ their pursuit of the centre-back following the Euro 2020 final, having last week already secured the signing of Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.
One player who is set to leave the Emirates this summer is William Saliba however, the defender set to sign for Marseille on a season-long loan deal, having spent last season with Nice.
Saliba signed for Arsenal in a £27m deal in 2019 but is yet to make a senior appearance, the 20-year-old spending each of the past two seasons on loan in Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne and Nice respectively.
The loan move to Marseille will not include an option-to-buy and is expected to be finalised in the next 48 hours as the youngster continues his development.
