Arsenal make offer to sign Real Madrid stalwart Marcelo

Arsenal are apparently interested in signing Real Madrid left-back Marcelo.

The Brazilian international has apparently asked to leave the Spanish giants after a glittering 13-year career at the Bernabeu, having won four Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles since arriving as a teenager from Fluminense in 2007.

Having been an ever-present for Real for over a decade, Marcelo’s place in Zinedine Zidane’s side is now under threat following the £47m signing of Lyon full-back Ferland Mendy earlier this summer.

The 31-year-old has now asked to leave as he seeks a new challenge, with Arsenal said to be among a host of clubs across Europe interested in signing him according to Spanish publication, Sport.

Unai Emery is keen to strengthen at left-back having been left unconvinced by current options Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal, with the North London club having seen a bid for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney rejected.

Arsenal will face competition for Marcelo’s signature from several leading European clubs, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and AC Milan also reportedly keen.

However, the report doesn’t offer any insight whatsoever as to any kind of finances surrounding any potential deal.
