Arsenal are closing in on a loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos according to reports in Spain.
Ceballos is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League as he seeks more regular first-team football, having found opportunities restricted for Zinedine Zidane’s side last season.
The 22-year-old made just 13 starts in La Liga last season, and has stated his desire to play more regularly to aid his development and earn his place in the Spain squad for the European Championships next summer.
According to Marca, Arsenal are now awaiting final confirmation from Real over what will be a season-long loan deal, while Tottenham have also been linked. The deal will not include an option for a permanent move, with Ceballos still believing his long-term future is at the Bernabeu despite his limited game time in the past two seasons.
The midfielder is believed to see Arsenal as an ideal club at which to reignite his career, with Ceballos reported to like the idea of living in London and working under compatriot Unai Emery.
Arsenal are hoping to conclude the deal this week, which would represent somewhat of a coup for Emery. The Arsenal boss’ transfer budget is believed to be restricted this summer, with the club having failed to secure Champions League football for a third consecutive season.
The addition of Ceballos, who shone as Spain won this summer’s European U21 Championship, would represent a high-quality addition without making a significant dent in the club’s already limited transfer funds.
