Viktor Gyokeres continued his stunning start to the season during the international break as the forward scored five times in just two fixtures for Sweden.
Gyokeres is arguably the most in-demand centre-forward in European football right now with a number of the continent’s superpowers interested in prising him from Sporting Lisbon.
His four-goal haul in Sweden’s 6-0 thrashing of Azerbaijan took the 26-year-old to 32 goals for the campaign for club and country. It’s an astonishing statistic for a player who looks likely to earn Sporting a huge windfall in the upcoming transfer windows.
The ridiculous stats behind Viktor Gyokeres’ season so far
Champions League leading goalscorer (5)
Gyokeres leads the way for goals in the Champions League this season, having scored five times in just four appearances. No player has managed more, with Gyokeres tied at the top of the goal chart alongside Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Barcelona duo Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
A hat-trick against Manchester City on matchday four was a statement performance against elite opposition.

Primeira Liga leading goalscorer (16)
A return of 29 goals in 33 appearances last season earned Gyokeres the Bola de Prata as Portuguese football’s leading scorer last season. It was a dream debut season for the Swedish striker, who also collected the Primeira Liga’s Player of the Year award after firing Sporting to the title.
He’s aiming to become the first player to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Porto’s Jackson Martinez claimed three in a row between 2013 and 2015. Gyokeres has 16 goals in just 11 league games this season, eight more than nearest challengers Galeno and Samu Aghehowa.
Nations League top goalscorer (9)
Gyokeres’ four-goal haul against Azerbaijan confirmed his place as the Nations League’s leading scorer after the group phase. The forward hit nine goals in just six appearances for Sweden, as the Scandinavians made light work of League C to earn promotion. He averaged a goal every 59 minutes.
