USA coach Gregg Berhalter has tipped Chelsea playmaker Christian Pulisic for a future move to La Liga giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old USA international emerged as one of Europe’s hottest prospects after making his debut for Borussia Dortmund in 2016, before joining up with the Blues last summer, having initially signed on the dotted line in January 2019.
After arriving to high expectations following his impressive form in the Bundesliga, ‘Captain America’ made a somewhat slow start to life in England before establishing himself as arguably Chelsea‘s most dangerous attacker as the season wore on.
His initial struggles at an end, the youngster went on to notch nine Premier League goals and four assists in total as he solidified his place on the left-side of the Blues attack. The season may have ended with the player suffering a cruel injury during the subsequent FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal, yet with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz joining Pulisic at Stamford Bridge, the upcoming campaign promises to be an even better one for the American.
However, while his focus may be solely on Chelsea and Premier League life for now, Pulisic’s international coach believes he is capable of making an even bigger step up in the future.
“At 21, he is a leader at Chelsea,” Berhalter Sport Bild. “It doesn’t happen that often that a Bundesliga player moves to England and immediately convinces there.
“He quickly got used to the speed and the more physical style of playing in England. He is a role model for other U.S. players in the Bundesliga whose goal is the Premier League.
“Christian is perfect for Chelsea. All dangerous attacking plays go through him, he shines as a goal scorer and provides assists.
“If he can keep this level, he can play for the world’s biggest clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Real Madrid.”
