Thomas Tuchel has provided an injury update on the fitness of Thiago Silva, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz ahead of Chelsea’s trip to face Southampton this weekend.
Chelsea face the Saints tomorrow lunchtime looking to continue their impressive start under Tuchel, with the west London side having moved back into the Premier League’s top four following four consecutive victories.
Tuchel’s side will face a Southampton team struggling for form and who have lost their past six fixtures in the Premier League, dropping down the table following early season optimism over a push for European qualification.
The German has confirmed that his side will once again be without the services of Thiago Silva, with the defender having failed to recover from a groin injury picked up in the 1-0 win at Tottenham earlier this month.
‘Thiago will be out for the game,’ said Tuchel at his pre-match press conference. ‘He’s not ready.’
Tuchel also revealed his concerns over Christian Pulisic after the winger suffered a tightness in his calf, though confirmed that summer signing Kai Havertz is fit to return after rejoining training this week.
‘We have some issues with the calf of Pulisic,’ added Tuchel. ‘It’s nothing big, it just feels tight and a bit of a risk.
‘Tammy feels very good. He is free for training today and, if things go well, he’s in the squad. Kai Havertz has been training as well and will join us at Southampton.’
