Thomas Tuchel has provided fitness updates on Thiago Silva, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle on Monday night.
Chelsea host Newcastle in the Premier League looking to continue their unbeaten record since Tuchel’s appointment as head coach, the German continuing his positive start at Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 FA Cup win at Barnsley last night.
Tuchel’s side currently sit fifth and are just one point adrift of the Champions League places, though will be without Thiago Silva for the clash with the Magpies with the veteran having not recovered from a thigh injury.
โItโs too soon for sure for Thiago,โ said Tuchel at his pre-match press conference. โWe are aiming for Southampton and trying hard so letโs see if we make it but we cannot promise.โ
There was more positive news on the fitness of Timo Werner who limped off during last weekend’s win at Sheffield United, following an encouraging performance from the out-of-sorts forward who made both goals in a 2-1 victory at Bramall Lane.
Kai Havertz remains a doubt after missing Chelsea’s past four fixtures, however, though both players will be assessed in the days ahead of Newcastle’s visit to Stamford Bridge.
โItโs Friday and we still have three training sessions before the game,โ Tuchel added. โIt should be absolutely okay for Timo to come back but maybe too close for Kai.
โIโm not sure if heโs out [of training] today but he will be missing this match as well.โ
