Trippier reveals he left Spurs because of ‘behind the scenes’ issues

Former Spurs defender Kieran Trippier has revealed that unrest behind the scenes was the main factor in him leaving the club to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

Right-back Trippier starred for England at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but his club form dipped during last season, and he was sold to Atletico for £22 million recently.

Fellow long-serving full-back Danny Rose is also expected to be offloaded by Spurs this summer, and while Trippier did not mention specifics he did admit he felt it best to leave the North London club due to problems behind the scenes.

“I think it was time for me to change and move on,” Trippier told Sky Sports.

“I don’t necessarily mean that I needed to move on, but things happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, which I don’t really want to go into, but I needed to move on from that.”

Trippier lined out for his new club last night as Atletico hammered local rivals Real 7-3 in Yankee Stadium.
