Tottenham Hotspur host Aston Villa at their own stadium on Saturday still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are one of only two top-flight clubs yet to score in the league this term, and last weekend’s goalless draw with Everton was the first scoreless Premier League match ever played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Liverpool in midweek, but James Maddison’s return to fitness offers a rare source of encouragement after two substitute cameos.
Tottenham Hotspur team news
Sandro Tonali picked up a knock before the midweek cup defeat and remains a doubt, alongside Pedro Porro, who is managing a muscle issue. Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Mykhaylo Mudryk are all long-term absentees. Maddison, fit enough for back-to-back substitute outings, could now be ready for a more extended role from the start.
With Maddison potentially coming into the side, Mohammed Kudus is expected to be given a rest after completing 75 minutes against Liverpool. De Zerbi’s back four and goalkeeping choices are expected to remain as they were against Everton.
