Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal for Thiago Alcantara with the Bayern Munich midfielder ‘very close’ to a switch to the Premier League champions.
Thiago is believed to be keen on a new challenge after seven seasons in the Bundesliga with Bayern, with the 29-year-old having just a year remaining on his current contract in Munich and interested in a potential move to English football.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Spain international has held ‘very advanced’ negotiations with Liverpool over the prospect of a move to Merseyside this summer, though a fee is yet to be agreed with Bayern who will reportedly demand around €35m for the star.
The report suggests that Thiago has agreed terms on the move to Anfield and just the ‘economics’ remain to be solved between the two clubs, with Liverpool keen to find an ‘imaginative formula’ to make the payment amid the financial squeeze of the coronavirus pandemic.
Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of a player who has won seven consecutive league titles since moving to Bayern from Barcelona, the midfielder having been close to a move to Manchester United prior to his switch to the Allianz Arena.
David Moyes decided he was not a player for him at United. Thiago could not believe it and being in Munich to sing the contract to join Pep’s team, asked his agent to ring MUFC again. Same answer, not a player needed. Then he decided to join Bayern

The Spaniard was keen on a mover to Old Trafford back in 2013, but according to Guillem Balague, David Moyes decided against the move during his ill-fated reign at the club.
However, it now looks as if Thiago could finally be heading to the Premier League in the colours of their North West rivals.
