The most valuable footballers with contracts expiring in 2025

There are some huge names across European football whose contracts are expiring next summer.

Free agency provides footballer with a chance to determine their own future and there could be no shortage of headline Bosman deals in 2025.

Upcoming free agents will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign sides in the January transfer window and several teams are sweating on the futures of some big-name stars.

Kylian Mbappe was the marquee free agent of last summer’s window as Paris Saint-Germain’s record scorer moved to Real Madrid when his contract expired at the Parc des Princes.

Ilkay Gundogan, Piotr ZieliÅ„ski and Mehdi Taremi were among the other high-profile free transfer moves, but who could join them next summer? Using transfermarkt’s player valuation system, we’ve ranked the top 10 most valuable players with contracts expiring at the end of the campaign.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool face nervous waits over the futures of key men, with each possessing three names on this list.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (€70m) is the most valuable player whose deal expires in 2025, just ahead of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane (€60m) and Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah (€55m).

There’s also likely to be a rush to sign Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canada international has scored 13 goals in 18 games this season, including four in the Champions League. He is not expected to renew his contract with the French side and clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A are scrambling for his signature.
