Max Dowman wrote his name into the record books this weekend after scoring for Arsenal against Everton.
The precociously talented teenager changed the game as a substitute at the Emirates, as Arsenal scored twice late on to snatch a 2-0 win. Dowman had an influential role in the opener, before racing away on the counter-attack to score a success-sealing second goal.
His first goal for Arsenal made him the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League, surpassing the record of ex-Everton forward James Vaughan, which had stood until 2025.

Dowman’s first top-flight goal came aged 16 years and 73 days, comfortably beating the previous landmark. However, the youngest player to ever score in the history of England’s top flight is Jason Dozzell, who netted for Ipswich against Coventry in 1984. The 16-year-old was 16 days younger than Dowman when marking his Ipswich debut with a late goal.
Incredibly, two of the five youngest Premier League goalscorers both occurred this season. Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha added his name to the list after netting the winner against Newcastle in August.
Wayne Rooney was the first 16-year-old to score in the Premier League after netting a famous winner for Everton against champions Arsenal in October 2002.
The 10 youngest goalscorers in Premier League history:
