Stoke City sack manager Gary Rowett

Stoke City today announced that the club has sacked Gary Rowett as their manager after just eight months in charge at the bet365 Stadium.

Former Birmingham and Derby coach Rowett was a popular appointment when he was given the job after Paul Lambertโ€™s short stint in charge ended in relegation from the Premier League last May.

However, the 44-year-old soon became an unpopular figure with Stoke fans who grew unhappy with what they perceived as his negative playing style.

Despite, having been one of the pre-season favourites to be promoted, Stoke currently sit in 14th place in the Championship, having drawn 11 of their 26 games.

Stoke released a statement earlier today confirming Rowett and his coaching staff had left the bet365 and thanked him for his efforts while at the club.
