Graeme Souness believes Liverpool ‘are in a great place’ in this season’s Premier League title race despite their 2-1 loss at Manchester City on Thursday night.
Leroy Sane’s winner consigned the league leaders to their first defeat of the season, after Roberto Firmino had equalised Sergio Aguero’s opener, and allowed Man City to close the gap on Jurgen Klopp’s side to four points.
Despite the defeat, former Liverpool midfielder Souness believes the momentum is still with his former side as they seek to secure a first league title in 29 years.
“I think Liverpool are in a great place,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“It’s the first week of January and it’s the first time they’ve lost. That’s the first time they’ve tasted losing in the Premier League.
“I know which team I would rather be playing for in the second half of the season, I think the momentum is very much with Liverpool.
“I think City have come unstuck three in six games – there’s still questions there although a lot of them have been answered tonight.”
