Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that David De Gea is close to signing a new contract at Manchester United.
The Spanish international’s future at Old Trafford has appeared uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract, with talks having stalled in recent months over an extension to his current deal.
The 28-year-old was believed to be demanding a deal which would make him one of the club’s highest-earning players, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus reported waiting in the wings.
De Gea is set to return to the side for Manchester United‘s friendly with rivals Leeds in Australia tomorrow, having missed the club’s 2-0 win over Perth Glory in their first pre-season fixture.
Reports now claim that he has agreed a £350,000-a-week deal, and Solskjaer says he remains ‘hopeful’ a new deal will be agreed with the former Atletico Madrid star.
“Yeah, he will play tomorrow (against Leeds),” Solskjaer said in the pre-match press conference.
“Hopefully we can agree (a deal) with David, as I’ve said a few times.
“I think that’ll be up to David and the club to announce if that happens. If and when.”
