Solskjaer says Mason Greenwood could start against Chelsea after netting in Leeds friendly

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood is ‘more than capable’ of featuring in their opening Premier League game against Chelsea.

Despite being just 17, Greenwood has already made four appearances for Manchester United‘s first team, including putting in an impressive performance on his full debut in the final league game of last season against Cardiff.

The youngster has been included on the clubs pre-season tour of Australia and the far-East, netting the opening goal of the game in the 4-0 win over bitter rivals Leeds United in Perth this afternoon.

Aside from his goal though, the teenager has looked perfectly comfortable alongside Manchester United’s stars, and Solskjaer has admitted that he has ‘a chance to start’ in the Premier League opener against Chelsea on August 11th.

“Mason has a chance to start against Chelsea, definitely. He is more than capable,” said Solskjaer.

“It is a good possibility if he keeps going as he does. It is difficult to keep players out who perform well.

“[I was] delighted with the goal he scored. That first goal is a weight off his shoulders. With his movement, cleverness, he’s going to be a very good player. He’s a natural footballer who can play anywhere along the front line.”
