Solskjaer reveals which players can replace Martial and Lingard for Chelsea clash

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been discussing the options at his disposal to replace injured duo Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

Solskjaer confirmed yesterday that attackers Lingard and Martial will miss two to three weeks of action after picking up muscle injuries during his sides 2-0 Champions League defeat to PSG last Tuesday.

Manchester United face Chelsea in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Monday, and Solskjaer has revealed that he will choose from Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, or youngsters Tahith Chong or Angel Gomes to replace the injured pair.

“[It’s a] Chance for anyone who plays. Alexis, Romelu, Chongy or Angel. Anthony and Jesse have done really well for us, they’re vital but then again with Rom and Alexis, they’ve got different skill sets and will be able to show what they can do,’’ Solskjaer told a pre-match press conference.

“So we just need to gel a team together for Monday.”

19-year-old Chong and 18-year-old Gomes are two of United’s most highly-rated young players and Solskjaer admitted that they have a real chance of featuring at Stamford Bridge.

“Yeah, it might be, we’ve got still forward options but Angel and Chongy have been training with us all week and the weeks leading up to this so there’s a big chance they’ll be involved.”

United’s next game after the Chelsea encounter is an eagerly awaited clash against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
