Everton boss Marco Silva says Fabian Delph is not a replacement for midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
Gueye was subject to strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain back in January, with the Blues rejecting several bids from the Ligue 1 club, while recent reports in France have suggested that the Senegal international is still a target for the French champions.
Silva insists that the Merseyside club’s signing of Delph is not in preparation for Gueye’s departure, saying Everton will re-enter the market for midfield additions should the 29-year-old leave this summer.
“Gana (Gueye) is still our player and, of course, if we lose Gana then we have to sign a player to replace him because you are talking about one player playing almost all of the games in our squad,” Silva said.
“If it will happen then we have to replace him, it is not because we have signed Fabian Delph.”
