Sarri: It’s ‘impossible’ for Chelsea to catch Liverpool and Man City

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri says it will be ‘impossible’ for his side to catch Liverpool and Manchester City in this season’s title race.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Leicester at Stamford Bridge in one of the shocks of the weekend, with Jamie Vardy’s goal securing a surprise away win for Claude Puel’s side.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in fourth place, 11 points behind unbeaten Liverpool and Sarri admits it would now be ‘impossible’ for his side to catch the league leaders.

“It was impossible from the beginning of the season,” Sarri told BBC Sport.

“As I said at the beginning of the Premier League it is impossible to catch Liverpool and Manchester City.

“We have to be careful to stay close to the first four positions.”

Chelsea currently sit above Arsenal in the final Champions League place via goal difference, and will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat when they travel to Watford on Boxing Day.
