Rooney urges Sancho to ‘stay at Dortmund’ despite reported Manchester United interest

Wayne Rooney has urged Jadon Sancho to stay at Borussia Dortmund, despite supposed interest from his former side, Manchester United.

The England international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer after a fine season with the Bundesliga outfit, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists.

His form saw him propelled into Gareth Southgate’s England squad, as well as attracting the attention of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is attempting to overhaul his Manchester United side after a disappointing end to their Premier League campaign last time out.

Such has been Sancho’s form, is thought that any deal to take him away from the Westfalenstadion would cost in excess of £100 million, but former United captain Wayne Rooney has urged him to stay in Germany if it is where he gets the most playing time.

“Dortmund is a great club with great fans, they trust their young players and you can see that in Sancho and the progress he has made in the last 12 months,” Rooney told German newspaper, Bild.

“Now Jadon has to ask himself whether he would get the playing time he gets in Dortmund when he moves to England, or would he just sit on the bench?

“Playing time is so important for a young player like Jadon, so if he gets the most playing time in Dortmund, he should stay there.”
