Wayne Rooney has hinted that he was forced out of Everton this summer as he prepares to make his MLS debut.
The Manchester United and England all time leading goalscorer finally ended his illustrious Premier League career this summer, joining MLS strugglers DC United.
He only returned to boyhood club Everton last summer after Jose Mourinho sanctioned his departure from Manchester United, and went on to be Toffees the highest goal scorer with 10 strikes.
However, he became visibly frustrated at Goodison Park last season, with now former Blues manager Sam Allardyce regularly substituting him or leaving him on the bench completely.
Now, as he prepares to make his MLS bow tonight, Rooney has hinted that he was forced out of his beloved club:
“For whatever reason, I still don’t know,” he told ESPN.
“I felt I was doing OK. I was top goal scorer playing most of the season from midfield, so…
“Everton made it clear towards the end of the season that they’d be happy for me to leave. But that’s football. That gave me a decision to make, and I made this decision.”
