Manchester City midfielder Rodri has praised ‘fantastic’ Gabriel Jesus after the forward’s brace helped secure a 4-1 victory at Burnley, lifting the champions into second and back to within eight points of leaders Liverpool.
In an impressive performance from Man City, the Brazilian international opened the scoring with a sublime curling effort, before doubling the advantage of Pep Guardiola’s side by volleying home Bernardo Silva’s cross early in the second half.
Rodri would put the visitors three goals ahead with a thumping effort, substitute Riyad Mahrez then getting in on the act with City’s fourth of the evening before Robbie Brady’s late consolation for Burnley.
The result returns City back to winning ways following their weekend draw at Newcastle, and Rodri admits it was a display the club needed with the Spanish midfielder reserving special praise for two-goal hero Jesus.
“We needed it. We were having a party because we needed this victory to have the confidence,” the Spanish midfielder told Amazon. “We’re doing our best but sometimes we don’t have the results. It’s a long way to the end of the season but it’s important.
“Gabriel Jesus is a fantastic player. He is young. But he plays like an old guy, scoring goals. We need him.
“It was a great goal for me. I don’t have many chances around the box, but I want to shoot. It takes a while to adjust [to a new league]. Now is going to be the best version of me.”
