Rodgers delighted with Leicester’s January signings

Brendan Rodgers had discussed his delight at Leicester’s January business after the club completed deals for Tete and Harry Souttar.

Leicester are without a win in five games and have endured a difficult season so far, but the Foxes have sought to strengthen their squad with signings during the winter window.

Tete has arrived on a loan deal from Shakhtar Donetsk to improve the club’s options in the final third and Rodgers revealed his excitement at the arrival of the Brazilian.

“We’re absolutely delighted. He’s a very talented young player. He’s technically very good but like most Brazilians he’s committed and loves his football,” Rodgers said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Leicester’s trip to Aston Villa.

“His touch is immaculate and he’s got an eye for goal. The club have done really well to get him here. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in the shirt.”

Leicester also improved their defensive options with the signing of Souttar from Stoke City in a £15m deal. The Australia international shone at the World Cup in Qatar and Rodgers is confident the centre-back can add presence to his side. Only Bournemouth have conceded more Premier League goals than Leicester this season.

“We’d seen Harry as a younger player and saw him coming through the trauma of an injury,” Rodgers said.

“I also spoke to people I respected about him. He’s coming in to show his qualities in the Premier League.

“He brings that stature that we’ve been after but we saw at the World Cup that he can play with the ball too. He has had a hip issue that we need to assess, but he’s trained today. He’s 24 years old, on the way up. I think he fits us here at Leicester.”
