Andy Robertson explains key difference between Liverpool title wins

Andy Robertson has explained how and why this season’s Premier League title was different from the one Liverpool won under Jurgen Klopp.ย

The Reds sealed the crown in fitting fashion by dismantling their opposition at a canter, beating Spurs 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday.

This season has drawn parallels with the 2019/20 campaign, when they streaked away from the pack to finish way out in front of every other team.

On this occasion, however, the team got to celebrate the triumph with their fans, having been denied the chance previously because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Andy Robertson explains key difference between Liverpool title wins

โ€œObviously, the last time we won it was a strange time,” Robertson told Sky Sports. “The world paused. It was quite unique the way we did it. We enjoyed it, of course we did. But you cannot beat what we experienced today.

โ€œThe way we came into the ground, the fans during the game, the fans after the game. Nothing quite compares to that so I am glad we got to experience it this way as well.”

At the beginning of the season there was uncertainty over how new manager Arne Slot would far, but he has successfully transitioned Liverpool‘s playing style from his predecessor Klopp in his debut season.

โ€œIt was obviously a different style [back then],” Robertson said. “It was high energy and high press. This team is a bit more controlled. Two very different teams.

โ€œBut from the managersโ€™ point of view, the key things are still the same in terms of counter-press, press high up, get the ball forward and try to get it to the dangerous players. I think that has always been key.

โ€œThe consistency has been there with both teams and that is why we have got over the line. We have always showed up. Maybe a couple of slips but nothing mad and that is why you get to seal it so far ahead.โ€
