PSG midfielder set to snub Premier League loan move

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons will snub interest from the Premier League in favour of returning to former club Barcelona this summer.

Simons is expected to leave PSG on loan once again after an impressive campaign at RB Leipzig in 2023-24, in which the 21-year-old scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists across all competitions.

Despite the Dutchman’s success in the Bundesliga, PSG are willing to sanction another temporary transfer for Simons with a host of clubs across Europe chasing a deal.

Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle have all been linked with signing Simons, who can feature in a number of attacking midfield roles. Leipzig also want to re-sign the starlet, though Mundo Deportivo claim the player’s preference is Barcelona.

Simons spent nine years in the academy system at Barcelona before leaving La Masia for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 in search of a clearer route to first-team football. According to the report, Simons is prepared to bide his time until Barcelona’s financial situation becomes clearer this summer, but a loan move could suit all parties as the Catalan club deal with economic issues.

Simons has been named in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 and would prefer for his future to be decided before the tournament gets underway on June 14.
