The Premier League returns this weekend – but there are a number of players who will be walking the suspension tightrope when they take to the field.

Club football has taken a backseat while the March international break takes place to confirm the last round of teams to qualify for Euro 2024, while other nations partake in friendly fixtures.

In England’s top flight players who received five yellow cards in the first half of the season are handed a one-match suspension.

Once the halfway mark is passed the yellow card limit is increased to 10 bookings in the first 32 games of the season. If a player reaches this number within that period they are suspended for two matches.

Bookings in the League Cup or FA Cup do not carry over into the Premier League, although red cards do.

This is very important, of course, for those who play Fantasy Premier League. Transferring in a player who is close to suspension could be disastrous for your FPL team.

Currently, there are two players who are just one yellow card away from two-match suspension, while 14 players are two bookings away. There are four players suspended for gameweek 30, while Burnley’s David Datro Fofano is ineligible to play against his parent club, Chelsea.

The Premier League players who are at risk of suspension:

  • Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)
